As the 2025-26 NBA season prepares to tip off, teams are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting campaign. Among the teams on fans’ radars are the Philadelphia 76ers, especially with eyes on star players Paul George and Joel Embiid.
Injury Updates on Paul George and Joel Embiid
Last season was challenging for both George and Embiid due to injuries. George, a crucial player for the 76ers, suited up for only 41 games last year, grappling with adductor and knee issues. Embiid, the towering center for Philadelphia, participated in only 19 games owing to persistent left knee problems. Recently, circulating videos showing their practice routines have ignited enthusiasm among supporters. However, both players sat out the recent preseason games, raising concerns as the regular season launches on October 21st.
Head coach Nick Nurse provided insights into their recovery processes during a recent press briefing.
“Yeah, he is progressing. They’re still working out some things. He did do some of the stuff early in practice as well today for the first time. So that’s also progression… Like 5-on-0 stuff, yeah, that’s been the first time for that. There’ll be boxes to check to keep it going,” Nurse stated regarding George’s progress.
Nurse also shared thoughts on Embiid’s condition, indicating, “I just think he’s got to get to a point where they’re happy with the amount of load he can take and the recovery part as well on top of it, and keep progressing that way… he did do 5-on-5. I think that’s what they told you yesterday, so again, progressing… He was out there for some of the 5-on-0 stuff, and some of the early stuff in practice.”
The anticipation among fans grows as they hope to see both players back on the court soon, especially after recent comments from NBA analyst Jeff Teague, who controversially suggested the 76ers could end up as a Play-In team this season.
Gilbert Arenas Stands Up for Joel Embiid
Throughout his career, Joel Embiid has faced criticism related to his injury history. Despite this, he has consistently demonstrated his value on the court. Recently, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas came to Embiid’s defense, countering negative narratives.
“I don’t care if Joel Embiid is out there on one leg, knee looking like a popped balloon, still limping around like he just finished a Tough Mudder… he’s still a top 30 player in the NBA. That man could be on crutches giving you 20 and 10. Stop playing with his name,” Arenas expressed passionately, highlighting Embiid’s undeniable talent and impact, regardless of his physical challenges.
Upcoming Matchup Against the Celtics
As the 76ers prepare for the season opener against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden, fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on the health and performance of Joel Embiid and Paul George. Their timely return to form could prove crucial for Philadelphia’s aspirations this season.
At this stage, the excitement is palpable, and the amount of attention directed toward these two athletes showcases their significance within the league. As the season unfolds, the focus will be on whether they can regain their peak performance and lead the 76ers on a successful campaign.
