Duke basketball fans are holding their breath after star guard Tyrese Proctor exited a game against the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday night due to an apparent knee injury. Proctor left the contest during the first half, prompting ESPN to report that he would not return for the remainder of the game due to his injury.

In a post on social media, sports journalist Jon Rothstein confirmed, “Duke’s Tyrese Proctor is OUT for the rest of tonight’s game against Miami with a knee injury,” leaving fans concerned about the implications for the team’s future.

Before his untimely exit, Proctor was making an impact on the game, contributing seven points with a 2-for-5 shooting performance, along with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. His injury occurred while he was contesting a layup attempt by Miami’s freshman guard, Divine Ugochukwu, with just over a minute remaining in the first half. It was a tough sight for Blue Devils supporters as Proctor appeared to twist his knee, quickly hobbling to the baseline in visible pain.

Despite his absence, the No. 2 ranked Duke team displayed an impressive performance, dominating the game for the most part. They entered halftime with a substantial 15-point lead and ultimately secured a decisive 97-60 victory, fueled by Kon Knueppel’s standout performance with 20 points. Freshman superstar Cooper Flagg also shined, finishing with 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds.

This knee injury comes as a disappointing twist for Proctor, who is not only a key player on the court but recently hit a significant milestone by scoring his 1,000th point as a Blue Devil. Just moments before leaving the game, he sank a pivotal three-pointer, marking a high point in what has been a promising season for the junior guard. On the season, Proctor has been averaging 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, showcasing his ability to make plays on both ends of the court, with a shooting percentage of 40.9% from three-point range.

As the Blue Devils extend their winning streak to five games and improve their record to 25-3, the upcoming game against the Florida State Seminoles at Cameron Indoor Stadium this Friday is already on fans’ minds. While the exhilaration of this winning streak is palpable, the concern for Proctor’s health looms large. After all, the journey through March Madness is unforgiving, and every player’s health is crucial for the championship aspirations of Duke basketball.

As a seasoned sports writer, I understand how it feels to watch your favorite team and star players grapple with injuries, especially when the stakes are high. You want them to perform at their best, and any uncertainty about their health can send waves of worry through the fanbase. We can only hope for a swift recovery for Proctor and look forward to seeing him back on the court, helping to drive the Blue Devils toward championship contention.
