The Boston Red Sox are making significant shifts within their organization following a disappointing 10-17 start to the 2026 season. Six staff members have been let go, including manager Alex Cora.
The announcement came shortly after a resounding 17-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Not only was Cora dismissed, but the team also parted ways with hitting coach Pete Fatse, third-base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramón Vázquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson, and Major League Hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin.
In a related move, game planning and run prevention coach Jason Varitek has been reassigned to a new role, details of which will be revealed later.
Chad Tracy, currently managing Triple-A Worcester, steps in as the interim manager as the team assesses its direction.

Cora, who previously celebrated success as a player with the Red Sox, took the reins as manager back in 2018. Over his eight-year tenure, he compiled a respectable win-loss record of 620-541.
He led the team to remarkable success in 2018, achieving 108 wins against 54 losses and ultimately claiming the World Series title.
“Alex Cora guided this organization through one of its most memorable seasons in 2018, and for that, along with his contributions in the years to follow, we extend our deepest appreciation,” said Red Sox principal owner John Henry.
“His impact on this team and this city is undeniable. He has provided leadership both on and off the field in numerous ways. These decisions are never simple, but this one is particularly hard due to Alex’s significance to the Red Sox from the moment he joined us.
“I want to express gratitude to Alex, our coaches, and their families for their invaluable contributions to this organization. They have impacted the club beyond what happens on the diamond, and they will always hold our respect and appreciation.”
