Mike Campbell’s legacy as a professional pitcher for the Seattle Mariners and other MLB teams has come to an end at the age of 61.
The Mariners shared their condolences on Friday, stating: “We are saddened by the passing of Seattle native and former Mariners pitcher Mike Campbell. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.”

As reported by the New York Post, Campbell passed away at his home in Kirkland, Washington. The publication noted that the King County Medical Examiner’s records indicate the cause of death is currently pending.
Raised in Seattle, Campbell attended high school in Bellevue before moving on to the University of Hawaii, where he honed his skills. He caught the attention of the Mariners, who selected him as the seventh overall pick in the 1985 draft.
Making his professional debut in 1987, he recorded a 1-4 start while appearing in nine games, with 35 strikeouts remarkably alongside 41 hits allowed.
Campbell’s tenure with the Mariners extended until 1989, when he was traded, along with Mark Langston, to the Expos in a deal that brought in Randy Johnson.
His journey spanned 13 years, playing for various major and minor league teams, including the Rangers, Padres, and Cubs. Campbell held a record of 12-19 as a starter, striking out 135 batters while maintaining a .357 average as a hitter, contributing with 3 RBIs and 2 Runs.
This year has proven particularly somber for the Mariners community, as they also mourned the loss of Jesús Montero, a former Yankees and Mariners catcher, who tragically died at 35 following a motorcycle accident in October.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Mariner Jesús Montero,” the Mariners stated on Oct. 19. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones.”
Additionally, former Mariners pitcher Yoervis Medina also lost his life in October due to a car crash in Venezuela. Reports indicated that he suffered a heart attack behind the wheel, leading to a tragic incident in Carabobo.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of former Mariners pitcher Yoervis Medina,” the team expressed in October. “We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
