The financial landscape for Curt Cignetti has become extraordinarily lucrative.
Indiana University has made a significant financial commitment to its head football coach, agreeing to a remarkable $105.6 million over the next eight years, as detailed in a letter from athletic director Scott Dolson released on Monday.
Cignetti’s previous contract included a clause for a “good-faith market review” upon the team’s achievement of reaching the College Football Playoff semifinal—which they accomplished earlier this year, culminating in the university’s first national championship title.
The updated contract stipulates that Cignetti will receive $13.025 million guaranteed this coming season, with annual raises of $50,000 extending through November 30, 2033. This figures to place him as the second-highest-paid coach in college football this year, trailing only Kirby Smart of Georgia and slightly ahead of LSU’s Lane Kiffin.
Cignetti’s pay bump amounts to an impressive 54% increase from the $8.5 million guarantee outlined in his prior contract signed back in November 2024. All other provisions of the contract will continue to apply.
Importantly, if Cignetti is dismissed without justification, Indiana is obligated to pay the total remaining guaranteed funds, a clause triggered following his team’s appearance in either the Big Ten championship or the College Football Playoff.
If the Hoosiers repeat last season’s outstanding performance, it’s likely Cignetti will surpass $15 million in earnings.
Moreover, his contract is enriched with additional perks: a $25,000 annual vehicle allowance, complimentary meals at the athletic dining facility, and unlimited access for his family to the Pfau Golf Course and driving range in Bloomingdale, Indiana, which includes all fees for golfing activities.
