The anticipation surrounding the 2026 NBA trade season has been electrifying, filled with unexpected moves and twists. One of the most talked-about trades was James Harden’s transfer to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Yet, the situations surrounding star players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ja Morant, and Jeremy Sochan remain unchanged, leaving fans eager for clarity.
The San Antonio Spurs permitted Jeremy Sochan and his agents to investigate options in the trade market prior to the February 5 deadline. This sparked curiosity amongst fans as several unforeseen teams showed interest in Sochan’s potential relocation.
Upon the deadline passing, Sochan remains firmly affiliated with his team, proudly wearing the Silver and Black. However, buzz about a possible buyout for a more significant role elsewhere has gained traction. Recent reports indicate that Sochan has come to a definitive conclusion regarding the buyout discussions, especially as the Spurs’ strategy is becoming clearer.
“Sochan does not plan to pursue a buyout with the Spurs and intends to complete the season in San Antonio, according to a league source.” Via Jared Weiss.

REPORT: Lack of Trade Interest Pushes Spurs Toward Summer Sign-and-Trade For Sochan
Sochan’s season has been challenging, struggling to find stable footing in the rotation. The Spurs’ front office views the present trade market for Sochan as lacking sufficient interest to secure a favorable deal. As a strategic approach, they are leaning towards a sign-and-trade option this summer instead of letting him leave with no return.
“Sochan had hoped to transition to a team where he could earn more playing time and showcase his talent ahead of free agency, reminding the NBA of his starter status during the Spurs’ rebuilding phase. While the Spurs would prefer to obtain value for him before the deadline, a summer sign-and-trade could offer draft picks or a player in exchange.” Weiss elaborated in his latest insights.
As it stands, the Spurs are positioned second in the Western Conference, boasting a solid record of 35 wins and 16 losses. Looking ahead, they are set to clash with the Dallas Mavericks at Frost Bank Arena. Sochan’s status for this game remains questionable due to a quadriceps injury.
