Fans of the Denver Nuggets are on alert as Jamal Murray showcases a remarkable scoring streak. Yet, just as things were looking up, disaster struck during the latest matchup, tarnishing the team’s outlook.
During a recent game against the New York Knicks at Ball Arena, Murray sustained a serious injury with only about a minute remaining in the second quarter.
The injury unfolded while Murray was backpedaling on defense. He accidentally stepped on Nikola Jokic’s foot, leading to a disastrous twist of his left ankle. Slow-motion replays captured the moment vividly, showing the awkward rolling motion. Fullcourtpass’s X (formerly Twitter) account shared the video on Friday.
As Murray tracked a defensive play, his ankle felt the full weight of the sudden contact with Jokic’s heel. The unexpected angle caused his ankle to buckle under him. Immediately, he collapsed, clutching his leg, unable to weight-bear, and required assistance from teammates and trainers to exit the court.

The slow-motion footage of the injury makes it appear even more severe, as the unnatural angle of Murray’s ankle is unmistakable before he falls to the ground.
Remarkably, this was the first occasion since November 12, 2025, that the Nuggets’ starting five played together healthily. Unfortunately, that reunion was short-lived, lasting less than two quarters due to this freak accident.
Murray did not rejoin the game and will undergo further assessments to determine the extent of the sprain and his recovery timeline. If he misses upcoming games, expect to see increased roles for Bruce Brown and Tyus Jones in the backcourt.
The Denver Post reports a cautious sense of optimism from the team that the injury may be a mild-to-moderate sprain, which could mean avoiding a season-ending situation.
Jamal Murray is Not the Only One on the Nuggets’ Injury List
The injury report for the Denver Nuggets has been alarming, resembling a constant reshuffle that hinders team cohesion.
Aaron Gordon recently returned after a 17-game hiatus due to a right hamstring strain, contributing three points, three rebounds, and three assists in 21 minutes against the Knicks. The team is exercising caution, as this marks his second significant hamstring issue this season.
Cameron Johnson has also made a comeback, having dealt with right ankle inflammation. In his recent outing, he tallied 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Meanwhile, Peyton Watson continues to recover from a right hamstring strain, having missed substantial time.
Tyus Jones marked his return to play Friday after sidelining three games due to a right shoulder strain, spending ten minutes on the court in the loss to New York. The season has been challenging for Denver’s chemistry, highlighting the need for improvement as they aim for a successful postseason.
